Western Australian of the Year Awards

For more than 50 years, the Western Australian of the Year Awards (WAOTY) have honoured the individuals whose talent, leadership and dedication help make Western Australia one of the most vibrant, innovative and diverse places in the world.

The awards celebrate excellence and recognise the highest level of contribution made to our State by people who were born and raised here, as well as those who have chosen WA as their home. Their impact spans culture, community, business, sport, the arts, science, youth leadership and more – shaping the identity and future of Western Australia.

Established in 1973 as the WA Citizen of the Year Awards, the program has evolved alongside the State itself. In 2012, the awards were renamed the Western Australian of the Year Awards, reflecting a stronger, more unified celebration of the many ways people contribute to our growth, spirit and sense of belonging.

Each year, finalists and winners represent some of the most inspirational Western Australians – people who uplift their communities, innovate in their fields, share our stories, champion change, and embody the values that define who we are as a State.
