  • 21 November 2026 – Junior Reporter live at the WA Day Festival

Dates are indicative and may be changed by the Promoter. The finalist announcement and public voting period will only apply if the Promoter elects to proceed with those components in accordance with Section 6.

4. How to Enter

To enter, eligible participants must:

  • Create a 15–90 second video responding to the prompt: “What do you love about Western Australia – and why?”
  • Ensure the video is the original work of the student.
  • Submit the entry via the official online entry form, including all required student, teacher, and school details.
  • Provide a valid video link (e.g. unlisted YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox) or upload the file (maximum file size applies).

5. Entry Requirements

  • Videos should be filmed in portrait format where possible and include clear audio.
  • Content must be appropriate for a general audience and must not contain offensive, defamatory, or inappropriate material.
  • Entries must not infringe on any third-party intellectual property or privacy rights.
  • Only one entry per student is permitted unless otherwise approved by the Promoter.

6. Judging

This is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in determining the winner.

Stage 1 – Judging and Shortlisting

All eligible entries will be reviewed by a judging panel appointed by Celebrate WA and 7NEWS.

Entries will be assessed based on:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Clarity of storytelling
  • Relevance to the theme
  • Engagement and presentation
  • Suitability for publication, broadcast and/or promotion

The judging panel will select a winning entrant based on these criteria.

At the Promoter’s discretion, up to 10 entries may also be selected as finalists and featured as part of a public finalist gallery and voting process.

The Promoter is under no obligation to select a minimum number of finalists or to publish or publicly display any entry.

Stage 2 – Public Gallery and Voting

If the Promoter determines that a finalist gallery and public voting process will proceed, selected finalist entries may be featured on Celebrate WA’s official digital and/or social media channels and the public may be invited to vote for their favourite entry via an official voting mechanism.

The Promoter reserves the right, at its sole discretion, not to proceed with, or to modify, suspend or discontinue the finalist gallery or public voting component, including where the number, quality or suitability of entries, operational considerations, platform requirements or other circumstances make it impractical or inappropriate to proceed.

If public voting proceeds:

  • Only votes submitted via the official voting mechanism during the specified voting period will be counted.
  • The Promoter reserves the right to remove or disregard any votes deemed fraudulent, automated, manipulated or otherwise inconsistent with the spirit of the competition.
  • Public voting will account for 30% of the final result, with the judging panel’s evaluation accounting for 70%.
Stage 3 – Final Selection

If public voting does not proceed, the winner will be determined solely by the judging panel based on the judging criteria outlined above.

If public voting does proceed, the winner will be determined based on:

  • 70% judging panel evaluation
  • 30% public voting results

Regardless of whether a finalist gallery or public voting process proceeds, one eligible winning entrant will be selected and awarded the prize described in Section 7.

The judging panel retains overall discretion to ensure a fair and equitable outcome. The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

7. Prize

The winning student will receive:

  • The opportunity to act as the WA Day Junior Reporter at the WA Day Festival at Burswood Park on Saturday 21 November 2026.
  • Participation in a 3-hour on-site experience, working alongside a 7NEWS journalist (journalist to be confirmed).
  • A behind-the-scenes experience in live media, including interviewing performers, partners, and event contributors.
  • The opportunity to create content for Seven’s digital platforms.
  • On-stage recognition at the WA Day Festival.

In addition:

  • The winner and their class will receive a 7NEWS Perth experience, delivered in person at the 7NEWS studio in Osborne Park (for metro schools within a reasonable travel distance), or virtually for regional and remote schools where travel is not feasible.

8. Travel & Attendance

  • The winner (and their parent/guardian) is responsible for making their own way to and from Burswood Park to participate in the prize.
  • The Promoter will not cover travel or accommodation costs, including for regional or remote entrants.
  • A parent or guardian must accompany the winner at the WA Day Festival.
  • If the winner is unable to attend the WA Day Festival in person, the Promoter reserves the right to award the prize to another entrant or adjust the prize at its discretion.

9. Use of Entries & Publicity

By entering, participants grant the Promoter and Seven West Media a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide licence to use, reproduce, edit, adapt, publish, and communicate submitted content.

This includes use across digital, social media, broadcast, promotional, and event platforms.

  • The student’s name, image, voice, school, and likeness may be used for promotional and media purposes.
  • Selected entries may be featured at the WA Day Festival, displayed on Festival screens, and shared across 7NEWS and Celebrate WA platforms.

10. Consent & Permissions

Schools must obtain parent or guardian consent prior to submission.

By entering, consent is given for the student’s participation and for the use of their image, voice, and content as outlined in these Terms & Conditions.

11. Privacy

Personal information collected will be used for the purpose of administering the competition.

Information may be shared with Seven West Media for competition-related purposes.

All personal information will be handled in accordance with Celebrate WA’s Privacy Policy.

12. General Conditions

  • The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and disqualify any entrant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms & Conditions, tampers with the process, or engages in fraudulent or misleading conduct.
  • The Promoter is not responsible for technical issues, lost, late, or misdirected entries, or issues arising from third-party platforms.
  • The Promoter may vary, modify or discontinue any promotional component of the competition, including the finalist gallery, publication of shortlisted entries and public voting process, where reasonably necessary due to the number, quality or suitability of entries, operational requirements, platform requirements or other unforeseen circumstances. Any such change will not affect the Promoter’s commitment to select an eligible winner and award the prize described in Section 7, subject to these Terms & Conditions.

13. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter and its partners are not liable for any loss, damage, or injury suffered or sustained in connection with the competition or prize.

Participation in the competition and acceptance of the prize is at the entrant’s own risk.
