Professor Peter Leedman

Professor Leedman is Deputy Director of the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR- Royal Perth Hospital campus) and Director of Translational Research and Head of Laboratory for Cancer Medicine within WAIMR. In addition, Peter  has been involved in numerous boards, peer review committees and trainee education programs. For the past 25 years he has been making an impact in the fields of cancer research (specialising in the treatment of hormonal cancers) and as a clinician. Professor Leedman’s laboratory has developed extensive expertise in cancer research, recognised both nationally and internationally. His team’s work, an example of which is the discovery of the SLIRP gene which has the potential to shut down cancer-fuelling oestrogen in breast cancer cells and testosterone in prostate cancer cells,  has given WAIMR an international profile. Professor Leedman is highly regarded by his patients and peers as a leader in his field of endocrinology and dedicates himself to one-on-one treatments, setting a high standard of patient care.
