Staging an Event
Organisations, groups, communities and individuals are encouraged to include an existing event, run a new event or partner with another group or organisation to run an event for WA Week.
To assist community groups and organisations, including youth groups, special interest groups, parent groups and other not for profit organisations Celebrate WA, in partnership with the Western Australian State Government, is offering up to $1000 through the WA Week Small Grants Scheme. For more information on the WA Week Small Grants Scheme including guidelines and an application form please see the 'Grants' page.
Ideas of events that could be run by your organisation for WA Week include:
Volunteer bring a friend Day
Volunteer groups could invite its volunteers to bring along a friend who is interested in becoming a volunteer to enjoy a barbecue and celebrate the contribution of volunteers and the valued service they provide to the Western Australian community.
Connecting our Community
Your community could hold a Street Party and invite people from your area and surrounds to celebrate WA Week and the contribution of people in your community. Students could be invited to participate by designing artwork for display in the main street and buses could be organised for seniors.
Indigenous storytellers
Parents and Friends Associations could invite Indigenous storytellers to attend a WA Week event at their school to tell their unique stories to parents and children from the school and the surrounding areas. The children could work with an Indigenous artist to produce artwork that tells unique stories from their region/community.
Open Day
Your group could hold an open day and family picnic to promote the contribution of your group and encourage young people and families to participate in activities that you undertake. The event could be promoted to schools and youth groups and coordinated with the support of other local groups.
Community Slide Show and BBQ
Your community could celebrate the contribution of its people with a slide show highlighting local attributes and achievements and a family barbecue with local entertainers.
